🐋⚠️ Whale Sharks Are Here for Regatta Too!
Whale Shark Season in Seychelles
The Seychelles Police Force, in collaboration with local authorities, wishes to inform the public that the Whale Shark Season has begun. During this period, whale sharks may frequently be spotted in our waters, particularly around Mahé and the Inner Islands.
We would like to reassure everyone that whale sharks are completely harmless to humans. They are gentle giants of the ocean and play a vital role in maintaining a healthy marine ecosystem.
Public Advisory
- Do not panic if you encounter a whale shark.
- Do not attempt to harm, disturb, or chase them.
- Protect and respect these magnificent creatures as part of our natural heritage.
Advisory for Boat Operators
- Whale sharks often swim close to the surface.
- All boat operators are urged to take extra precautions when navigating in these areas.
- Reduce speed when necessary and maintain a safe distance to prevent injury to the animal or damage to your vessel.

As Regatta brings more boats to Beau Vallon, please remember that we are sharing the bay with several whale sharks currently feeding on the rich plankton blooms. 🌊
Sadly, some of these incredible animals already carry fresh scars from propeller strikes. Let’s ensure we do not add more.

- Slow down when boating, jet skiing, or heading out to sea this weekend.
- Stay alert for fins or shadows near the surface.
- Respect their space — they belong here too.
