How to apply if you live in the Seychelles

• Apply in person: at the Police Headquarters or Grand Anse Praslin Police Station. You will be required to fill in an application form, have your fingerprints taken.
• Required Documents; National Identity Card/ Passport for Non-Citizen.
• Processing Time: 1-3 working days from receipt of all required documents.

 How to apply from abroad

• Apply by Authorised Person: A third party locally can apply on your behalf with a written authorization letter and including all relevant required documents listed below
• Apply Online: Apply directly to the Police Department by sending an email to sscrb@seypolice.sc with all the relevant documents attached, you will be issued with an electronic copy of the Police Character Certificate via email free of charge.

Required Documents;

1. Proof of your current address- You must provide TWO different proof of address which clearly shows your name and address, and one must be dated within the last three months. Valid proof of address include bank statement, utility bills or phone bills.
2. Copies of your passport - You must provide copies of your passport(s) travel document which clearly show your photograph, personal information, expiry date and nationality.

• Completed Character Certificate Application form.

1. Copies of your Resident Permit or GOP and address history (applicable for non-citizen) – You must provide copies of your Resident Permit or GOP which clearly shows your nature of employment, duration of employment and your address during employment/stay in Seychelles.
2. Authorization letter (if applicable) addressed to: Commissioner of Police, Police Headquarters, PO Box 46, Victoria, Mahe, Seychelles, Attn: SS&CRB Section.

Processing Time: 3-5 working days from receipt of all required documents.

Opening Hours: Monday to Friday   0800 hrs to 1500 hrs.

Applicable Fees: Rs 200/-

Please note an electronic copy of the Police Character Certificate would only be issued for online application and if the applicant qualify as applying from abroad including proof of your current address.  The character certificate application Form can be found and downloaded from the Police website - FORMS.

According to Article 18 of the Constitution

(1) Every person has a right to liberty and security of the person.

(2) The restriction, in accordance with fair procedures established by law, of the right under clause (1) in the following cases shall not be treated as an infringement of clause (1)-

(a) the arrest or detention in execution of a sentence or other lawful order of a court;

(b) the arrest or detention on reasonable suspicion of having committed or of being about to commit an offence for the purposes of investigation or preventing the commission of the offence and of producing, if necessary, the offender before a competent court;

(c) the arrest or detention to prevent the spread of infectious or contagious diseases which constitute a serious threat to public health;

(d) the arrest or detention for the treatment and rehabilitation of a person who is, or reasonably suspected to be, of unsound mind or addicted to drugs to prevent harm to that person or to the community;

(e) the arrest or detention for the purpose of preventing the unauthorised entry into Seychelles of a person, not being a citizen of Seychelles, or for the purpose of deportation or extradition of that person;

(f) the detention for the rehabilitation and welfare of a minor with the consent of the parent or guardian or of the Attorney-General where such detention is ordered by a competent court.

(3) A person who is arrested or detained has a right to be informed at the time of the arrest or detention or as soon as is reasonably practicable thereafter in, as far as is practicable, a language that the person understands of the reason for the arrest or detention, a right to remain silent, a right to be defended by a legal practitioner of the person’s choice and, in the case of a minor, a right to communicate with the parent or guardian.

(4) A person who is arrested or detained shall be informed at the time of the arrest or detention or as soon as is reasonably practicable thereafter of the rights under clause (3).

(5) A person who is arrested or detained, if not released, shall be produced before a court within twenty-four hours of the arrest or detention or, having regard to the distance from the place of arrest or detention to the nearest court or the non-availability of a judge or magistrate, or force majeure, as soon as is reasonably practicable after the arrest or detention.

1. Go to the Police Human Resource office 
2. Bring along a passport photo, Job Card and copies of your Certificates.
3. You will be required to fill in a form.
4. You will later be required to sit for an exam which is held on a weekly basis.
5. If you are successful you will be called in for an interview.
6. After a successful interview you will be required to undergo a medical examination organized by the police.
