Indian construction worker dies in truck accident
An Indian construction worker died yesterday after being trapped under a truck at North East Point.
According to the police, at about 8.40am a heavy laden construction vehicle was travelling up a steep hill on a secondary road going towards North East Point. The driver and two passengers were seated in the front of the truck and six workers were at the back.
As the truck went up a steep hill it started to lose power and started to roll backwards. The driver could not control the truck which kept on rolling backwards until it collided with a retaining wall.
The truck ended on its side with one of the workers trapped under. Paramedics arrived on the scene soon afterwards and started to treat the injured. The trapped worker died on the scene and five others were rushed to hospital.
One worker is still in hospital in a serious condition and the remaining four were treated and discharged.
The owners of the vehicle, Sing Construction company, is in the process of informing the next of kin of the deceased and injured workers.
The police are continuing with the investigation into the incident.
