Over two dozen station commanders and leaders from different units in the police force have completed a management and leadership performance training programme.

The training programme, which started earlier this year at the Guy Morel Institute at Ma Joie, has come to a close and in a short ceremony at the institute on Tuesday afternoon the group shared their experience and heard testimonies of the few months spent on the programme.

Home Affairs Minister Charles Bastienne, the Commissioner of Police Ernest Quatre, the Dean of the Guy Morel Institute Shella Mohideen, as well as the different lecturers were present to share in the officers’ achievements.

“Revamping our police force to meet our society’s actual and future  needs is a gradual process which demands good planning,” Mr Quatre pointed out, noting that changes carried out so far are proving to be worthy and are yielding good results.

But while proudly showcasing these good performances, Commissioner Quatre acknowledged that the police force can fare a lot better though a lot of challenges of which the management is well aware still remain to be overcome.

Commissioner Quatre said the quality of the police workforce is one of those challenges.

“Among the many dedicated and highly recognised professionals and other good elements in the force, we feel there is the need to upgrade to higher standard and even though a lot has been done, more emphasis is being put on and more investment is being injected into training,” Commissioner Quatre said.

He stressed that it is essential to have quality human resources in order to be relevant and be able to contain criminal activities.

“More training, capacity-building and empowerment of the police force remains and will continue to be our top priority in our quest for even better service delivery,” Commissioner Quatre said.

Sergeant Anipha Hoareau, on behalf of her colleagues, talked about  their joy of having successfully completed the programme and expressed sincere gratitude to everyone who has made it possible.

“We have benefitted enormously and we are anticipating to implement the knowledge and skills we have gained,” she said.
